A Wonderful Weekend Away

Carlingford is an idyllic destination for holidaymakers of any kind, offering a variety of activities and sights around town. So, we’ve put this blog together with some great recommendations of holiday activities in Carlingford!

Friday Evening

Take the night to attend one of the amazing eateries in Carlingford, which boasts some spectacular quality restaurants, diners, and cafes! We recommend The Carlingford Arms for a traditional Irish atmosphere and great food or La Bella Vita, an Italian Pizzeria restaurant.

Saturday Daytime

One of the biggest attractions of Carlingford is the beautiful lough, which can be enjoyed in many ways. For example, take a stroll along the Carlingford Omeath Greenway, which follows along the side of the lough. Or, take a boat tour to see the lough from a more involved perspective.

Additionally, take a walk past Carlingford Castle aka King John’s castle, erected in the 12th century. Or, choose Carlingford Abbey, which had two unique towers added in 1432.

Saturday Evening

Try another of those amazing restaurants with our catering service, offered by our carefully selected partners from those very same spectacular eateries in town. Follow up dinner in The Loft cocktail lounge for a taste sensation.

Sunday Daytime

Having spent Saturday by the water, we recommend a day on land. For example, hiking in the Cooley Peninsula, which boasts the stunning Slieve Foy as its tallest peak, or the Skypark, a fun activity park for the whole family.

If you’re not feeling quite that daring, explore Carlingford itself. There are walking tours multiple times a day showing off the amazing medieval architecture remaining in the area. One of the old medieval gates still stands, as well as a 16th century town house called the Mint.
